Uncertainty over ‘Arrival’ of Nigeria Air Plane

A video showing a plane with the ‘Nigeria Air’ inscription on it is trending on social media on the last working day of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Development Diaries reports that Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, also posted the video of the plane on his official Twitter page on Friday.

Beneath the video, he wrote, ‘We are here. To Almighty God be all the glory. It has been a very long, tedious, daunting and difficult path’.

Earlier reports had suggested that the plane is scheduled to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, later on Friday.

Meanwhile, experts and stakeholders have questioned the timing and justification for the launch of the airline considering that there are only 72 hours left in President Buhari’s administration.

Questions have also been raised on how the plane can fly into the country without getting an Air Operating Certificate (AOC) from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Some have described the development as reflecting a poor shabby plan by the federal government. Other analysts have said the arrival of the plane does not translate into the commencement of commercial operations by the airline.

Apart from the video that was put out by the aviation minister on his verified Twitter handle, there has not been any further clarification on what is to be expected.

When clarity is not provided on issues like this, it further widens the trust gap between the government and citizens.

Development Diaries calls on the minister to provide a clearer update on the arrival of Nigeria Air, how many planes have been procured and the realistic date for commencement of the airline’s operations.
