Plan International is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Health and Nutrition Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detail action plan and ensure effective implementation of health and nutrition component in line with the existing donor approved project document in collaboration with other project staff and stakeholders
  • Lead the health team that involves health and nutrition assistant and home-based care providers and closely coordinate with other project staff
  • Improve basic preventive health care at community level with emphasis on health, immunisation, health and nutrition services
  • Strengthen linkages and coordination mechanisms between community and the Woreda health bureaus
  • Plan and implement project outlined in the protocol for OTP and SC to achieve objectives of the project
  • Train and support the HEWs in prevention and response of major diseases under surveillance and in severe acute malnutrition case management
  • Train and support community-based volunteer health workers for the implementation of the community component of the project
  • Conduct planning and promotion of awareness with regard to nutrition and preventative health care issues in the community
  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation and MHPSS key messages in health and nutrition activities
  • Work closely with project technical staff in ensuring coordination and integration across all activities
  • Jointly develop monthly, weekly work plan with other MHNT staff

Requirements

  • BSc in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition
  • Three years of relevant professional experience in a similar position
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of health and nutrition programming in the   humanitarian context
  • Familiarity with MHN activity in emergency settings
  • In-depth knowledge of primary health care system
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of IMNCI, AMYCN, IYCF-E implementation
  • Strong organisational, supervisory, strong writing and reporting skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments and cross-cultural awareness
  • Ability to work within a team structure, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources
