TUDEK PWDs

The Turkish Development Association (TUDEK) has presented food items to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the aged in the Adenta Municipality in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana

It was gathered that the donations were made as part of the nonprofit’s contribution for the New Year festivities.

More than 100 vulnerable persons, according to local media reports, were each presented with a five kilogramme pack of rice, bottles of soft drinks, cooking oil, and an undisclosed amount of money.

‘Serving people means serving God. That is why it is important to share what one has with others in order to receive the blessings of God’, Ghanaian Times quoted the organisation’s Director, MrCafer Tepeli, as saying.

He said that TUDEK had drilled boreholes as well as provided health facilities to needy communities.

The Adenta Municipal Chief Executive, Alexander Daniel Nii-NoiAdumuah, commended TUDEK for the surprise package for the community.

‘Whatever you do on earth, one day the almighty would judge and reward you accordingly’, Nii-NoiAdumuah said.

It is understood that several interventions and programmes have been implemented to support and improve the well-being and dignity of PWDs in the West African country.

The National Community-Based Rehabilitation Programme (CBR), for instance, was initiated in 1992 to provide home-based rehabilitation services delivered by household members of PWDs with the support of locally trained supervisors.

However, the programme was severely challenged with the withdrawal of donor funding, according to the Ghana Community-Based Rehabilitation Program for People With Disabilities: What Happened at the End of Donor Support?

Also, under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), a cash transfer programme, PWDs who are living in poverty receive unconditional transfers through a local pay point.

The National Health Insurance Scheme also provides free access to health care to PWDs in the country.
