Plan International is seeking to fill the role of Education Project Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Support in documenting lessons learnt and best practices of the pilot project
  • Support the project coordinator, project manager and Education in Emergencies (EiE) specialist in designing the project implementation plans
  • Ensure the execution of the project implementation plan and work closely with the national implementing partners on the project
  • Work closely with the national partners in the execution of the formal, non-formal (ALP and IQE) education component of the project
  • With support from monitoring and evaluation team, design a monitoring plan and simple data collection tools to ensure monitoring and data collection of key project indicators
  • Ensure the formation, strengthening and training of the community structures
  • Play a key role in the mobilisation and engagement of the community and stakeholders in the implementation and monitoring of the project
  • Support in organising and facilitating teacher training and assessments
  • Support assessment of the education sector with regard to the state of implementation
  • Review, assess and update the education situation in areas affected by emergency
  • Highlight education issues requiring a response – both immediate (less than two months) and medium term and make recommendations on specific actions required
  • Ensure core commitments to children are taken into consideration
  • In collaboration with national and international education actors, map current institutional response capacities
  • Support in designing appropriate education interventions based on the outcome of assessments and the context
  • Ensure issues of early childhood, gender, protection, and conflict sensitivity are factored into the programme design
  • Ensure Plan International guidelines, UN education cluster standards are considered and any departures documented
  • Support the implementation of and represent Plan International in emergency education coordination mechanisms including any relevant cluster

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent in Education, Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Three years, minimum, of education in emergencies experience
  • Experience working in emergency settings
  • Good knowledge and understanding of ‘Do No Harm’ principles and established international child protection standards (especially UNCRC)
  • Experience with participatory approaches to education, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or a related area
  • Experience working with IDPs, refugees and other vulnerable populations
  • Experience in TaRL methodology EiE programme (desirable)
  • Experience in directly providing services to children at risk and victims of abuse, exploitation and violence
