Kenya: NCN Calls for Covid-19 Donations

The National Council of NGOs (NCN) has called on all well-to-do citizens of Kenya to donate to the Covid-19 fight. The Chairman of NCN, Stephen Cheboi, stated that donations will enable the government fast-track its initiatives, which are aimed at checking the spread of Covid-19.

The Chairman of NCN stated that the council had formed a task force that will deliberate on ways to combat Covid-19, which has killed more than 119,044 and infected over 1,878,489 people globally. ‘We have formed [a multi-stakeholder committee] that brings together NGOs [and other] stakeholders to deliberate on interventions and actions for preventive measures’, Cheboi said.

In a similar development, American multinational corporations operating in Kenya, under the umbrella of the American Chamber of Commerce, said that they were implementing various measures aimed at supporting the Kenyan government in its response to the Covid-19 crisis. Board President of the organisation, Phillipine Mtikitiki, said that they were implementing initiatives focused on public sensitisation promoting hygiene standards, early detection as well as treatment .

‘We welcome the opportunity to engage and further explore ways in which American businesses can provide support and contribute to the country’s overall response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of these companies have been dealing with the virus in other markets and are glad to support the government and local enterprises in not only protecting businesses but also in securing the livelihood of Kenyans’, Mtikitiki said.
